Job description

ExeVir Bio is setting up a Preclinical Research Laboratory in Gent and they are seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist. The Associate scientist will be responsible for managing the laboratory on a daily basis, executing in vitro experiments and analyzing raw data. This individual will be a key member of a collaborative preclinical team in a small start-up company and this position offers the opportunity to be at the basis of progressing preclinical pipeline candidate compounds to Clinical Candidate Declaration.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in getting the laboratory up and running in close collaboration with the Senior Scientist
  • Participate in the development and qualification of assay methods
  • Participate in SOP writing and reviewing
  • Ensuring good management of the laboratory by maintaining the laboratory stock, managing the laboratory services involving the maintenance and calibration of laboratory material
  • Lead the execution of in vitro experiments
  • Ensuring quality throughout sample processes and ensure proper sample handling
  • Analysis of the raw assay data
  • Record data and results in specified forms (paper and electronic) according to good documentation practice
  • Prepare and follow up on sample shipments
  • Training of colleagues on equipment use, assay procedures and laboratory practices
  • Work closely together with the Senior Scientist to set-up preclinical experiments and analyze data
  • Report to the Head of Preclinical Development

Profile

  • You have a Master’s degree in the life sciences or medical field with 5+ years of laboratory experience in a biotechnology/pharmaceutical company
  • You are experienced in performing and analyzing ELISA, virus neutralization assays, other cell-based in vitro assays (e.g. functional antibody assays) and high-throughput assay platforms (Luminex, MSD)
  • You can show relevant experience in assay development and qualification
  • Previous experience in training laboratory colleagues is required
  • You’re experienced in managing sample shipments and coordinating supply vendors
  • You’re able to work in an accurate and efficient manner
  • You can be described as pro-active with a hands-on attitude
  • Good communication and organizational skills are a must
  • A proficient level of English (writing and verbal) is required
