Our client is a private equity owned company active in the design, development and distribution of solutions and products for babies and young children, situated at the high end segment. They have multiple brands and are active in the Western European region. Because of both organic growth as well as through acquisitions, the company is currently in full expansion and therefor needs to strengthen its managerial capabilities.

Function

The Retail Director is responsible for developing an international retail strategy covering the btb and retail channels and segments to maximise revenue and profit performance in a sustainable way, supporting brand building. He/she will lead the execution of this commercial strategy through management of the sales team and activities. The Retail Director reports to the CEO.

  • Develops and implements the international commercial strategy across retail and B2B (i.e. large retail chains, distributors, high end stand alone stores, …) in close collaboration with the CEO, the e-commerce director and other key stakeholders in the organization.
  • Responsible for the creation of the annual commercial business plan in order to achieve the company’s ambitious growth objectives, while keeping a focus on long term brand building.
  • Team management: builds a team with the right capabilities and mindset; trains the team on sales execution; inspires, develops and coaches the team in order to achieve their targets in a structured manner through customer segmentation; conducts business analysis and performance reviews.
  • Builds and maintains excellent relationships and partnerships with key customers by introducing key account management.
  • Budget and SKU management – manages margin and sales costs, inventory rotation, and the “product life cycle” of collections.
  • Monitors customer, market and competitor activity, and identifies new business opportunities in existing and new markets.
  • New business development – responsible for developing new geographical markets by setting up new sales teams or by managing agents/distributors while optimizing profitability of the current core markets.
  • Brings ideas to advance the company’s vision for the future, while being a true brand enthusiast.

Profile

  • Master degree (or comparable through experience);
  • Min 5 to 7 years of successful sales experience in retail, of which at least 3 years in a team leading commercial management role;
  • Experience with key account management in the luxury segment is desired;
  • Experience with leading and coaching a team with charisma and structure, promoting a positive team spirit;
  • Experience with implementing and controlling new processes in order to achieve growth goals;
  • International exposure and intercultural competence, as well as excellent knowledge of Dutch, French, English and ideally some German in order to support the international growth;
  • Entrepreneurial and action oriented;
  • Analytical and data driven;
  • Open-minded for new ideas;
  • Collaborative with strong relationship building skills (with internal and external stakeholders);
  • Change agent – able to help implement a performance driven culture with focus on sustainability and brand building, with a lot of enthusiasm and passion;
  • Tons of energy and enthusiasm with a CAN DO mentality;
  • Able to travel regularly (spending time in the field is important);
