In view of further enhancing the growth of their organization in diversified portfolios of energy curing, Toyo Ink Europe is looking for a R&D Engineer:

To pioneer in the next generation of radiation curable coatings for metal & other industrial applications

Position

  • As an R&D Engineer, you play a pivotal role in driving innovation at Toyo Ink Europe and helping the organization expand into new markets and industrial applications. Your mission is to develop innovative radiation curable coatings that perform on metal and other substrates — enabling the company to diversify its product offering.
  • You are the driving force behind the design, development, and testing of new coating solutions. This includes formulating new chemistries, researching and integrating novel raw materials, and applying cutting-edge curing technologies such as UV/LED/EB curing to improve product performance and offer energy efficient solutions for diverse applications to different customers prioritizing sustainability.
  • As a leader of a research project, you design experiments: you formulate, test, and introduce new materials. You develop and manage R&D projects from the ground up — taking full ownership from concept through pilot to production scale-up. With a high degree of autonomy, you’ll contribute to setting the technical direction and priorities.
  • Together with a cross-functional team and in close collaboration with an international R&D network from the artience Group, you ensure that innovations meet both technical and market demands.
  • Your role goes beyond improving existing products — you help pioneer a new business line. You’re encouraged to proactively explore and shape new ideas, investments, equipment needs, and market opportunities.
  • As a member of the Coatings Application R&D team, you report directly to the R&D Manager. You’ll work closely with a motivated group of engineers and lab assistants and receive mentorship and support to grow your technical and project leadership skills.

Profile

  • You hold a Master’s degree in (Polymer) Chemistry or Chemical Engineering and combine strong theoretical knowledge with a hands-on, pragmatic approach.
  • You have a good knowledge of metal coatings — whether from experience in coil coating, metal packaging, or related applications. Exposure to radiation/UV curing technologies is highly preferred; experience with water-based and solvent-based systems is also valuable.
  • Knowledge and understanding of European regulations and frameworks is an added advantage.
  • You are genuinely interested in developing new products from scratch and contributing to a broader company strategy. You don’t just want to follow — you want to lead, initiate, and shape.
  • You are analytical and curious by nature. You enjoy working in the lab, experimenting with raw materials, and fine-tuning formulations to meet strict industrial standards.
  • You are fluent in English and feel comfortable communicating within an international team. Knowledge of Dutch is a plus, as it enhances collaboration with local colleagues in the R&D and production teams.
  • You are well-organized, accurate, and able to manage multiple projects in parallel.
  • You have a collaborative mindset, can work across disciplines, and thrive in a team that values open communication, shared learning, and continuous improvement.

Offer

  • You will be part of a larger international group and can make your mark at the European level.
  • At the site in Niel you will join a fast and agile organization characterized by pragmatism and a no-nonsense approach. You become part of an engaging work environment that values teamwork, innovation, and ongoing improvement.
  • You will have the autonomy, support, and resources to help shape a new business line from scratch — and contribute to the strategic direction of the organization.
  • A competitive salary and package of benefits including the opportunity to maintain a good work-life balance.
